Santa Johnny Ds Background
Born in Washington D.C. – Raised on both the East and West Coasts
As an ELF in the late 1940s Johnny knew he wanted to have many of the positive qualities that Santa Claus displayed. Happy, Entertaining and Giving. Elf Johnny started entertaining young as a talented pianist.
Other youth activities included the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and on the West Coast as an Explorer Sea Scout. He also spent time enjoying Archery & Martial Arts.
In his teens he began entertaining as a Radio and Mobile DJ/Emcee, appearing at many events including parties for Hollywood celebrities and other well known Washington D.C. officials including Vice President Richard Nixon in 1959 and President John F. Kennedy – during a summer visit to a Naval Air Station in Southern California During his last Year in office. Lunch time Entertainment.
After Graduating from College with a Marketing Degree in the 60’s he enlisted in the U.S. Army, he was assigned as a Biomed to a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (M.A.S.H. Unit) during the Vietnam era and received additional Army Training in Special Weapons & Electronic Warfare with the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, N.C. in the late 60’s and early 70’s. As a U.S. Army Minuteman he trained & served TDY with the Air Force, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard and other Allied Military forces.
More intelligence training in Virginia (Ft Belvoir & Langley) then new duty at Ft. Huachuca, Az. then he was reassigned to the 101st Airborne in Ft. Campbell, Ky.
After his discharge from the Army in 1980 he went to work as a Biomed (Life Support Systems) at St. Al’s in Boise. Retiring from the Med. Center in 2002.
From 1977 to 2001 Johnny performed every Christmas as a traditional Santa Claus using high end designer beards. In 2002 he became a Real Bearded Santa.
Santa Johnny D is an alumni of the most prestigious and oldest institution in the nation, the Charles W. Howard Santa Claus School, founded in 1936.
Santa Johnny D is a Graduate of the International University of Santa Claus with a Degree in SantaClausology. A member of F.O.R.B.S. – The Fraternal Order of Real Bearded Santa’s. Santa Johnny D is also a member in the “Red Suit Society” and a Charter member of the International Brotherhood of Real Bearded Santa’s.
He and Santa Larry Angell expanded The International Brotherhood Of Real Bearded Santas – to add on the Idaho chapter of the I.B.R.B.S. – Santa Johnny D is still active in the Idaho Chapter, which now has 18 plus Santas, 10 Mrs. Claus’s, and a few elves as members.

Screening him nationally & statewide, going back to his days as an Elf trainee in the 1940’s. Santa Johnny passed the checks with flying colors. Santa Johnny is a loving Dad, a Grandpa and happily married to his best friend, Mrs. Claus (Barbara) for over 44 Years. For fun they are movie and music collectors, Santa’s sound system rocks. Santa and Mrs. Claus love to Bar-B-Q, if you are ever invited over don’t forget to bring the chocolate chip cookies.
Santa spends a lot of time at his vacation home in Boise, and enjoys attending birthday parties for Idaho children when invited. (Year round) His various seasonal Santa wardrobe items are a hit every time.
Santa Johnny networks with other Real Bearded Santa’s in the Boise area. They share referrals and try their best to back each other up during the holiday season. Holiday Home visits, Company Parties, visits to local businesses are his specialties.
SANTA has volunteered many hours of his time and talents to some great groups.
Big Brothers, S.A.R.M.C, the V.A Hospital, the Parkinson’s Association, Treasure Valley Churches, Military Troops, Hospice groups, Nursing Homes, Senior Centers, the Idaho Civil Air Patrol, Johnny was also the voice of “Santa” on a national ABC Radio Broadcast a few years ago. This year Santa Johnny D will offer to volunteer for various Law Enforcement agencies & Fire Departments in the treasure valley.
